WEYMOUTH St Paul’s Harriers held their annual AGM and presentation night, showcasing the talent on show at the club.

David Copp, son of the late Brian Copp, handed out the trophies as a tribute to his father, a former president and longtime supporter of the club.

David gave a short speech highlighting his family’s long time association with the Harriers and the history of the TG Copp Cup, which his father had presented annually.

This year’s recipient was senior road runner John Kennedy, who has run 12 marathons in 12 months, improving his PB on several occasions in the process.

In other awards for the senior athletes, the best senior man was Kevin Archer, with Dorothy Fraser scooping the prize for best senior woman.

Frazer also received a trophy for outstanding achievement in honour of her winning World Masters 60m gold and 200m silver.

Michelle Kennedy took the ladies’ road runners cup and Jessica Marshall won the trophy as the first female Harrier in the Weymouth 10. Michael Smith was the first male Harrier in the Weymouth 10 and Peter Clarke was awarded road runner of the year.

The Babb Rose Bowl was awarded to the club’s treasurer Alison Hunter and the Loyalty Cup to Jan Westhenry for her support given to the club.

In the other age groups, the top awards for competitor of the year went to Hannah Westhenry (under-17 girls), Aidan Turner (under-17 boys), Holly Anderson (under-15 girls) and Nial Turner (under-15 boys).

In the under-13s’ section there were joint wins for Ben Jones and Ryan Purse for the boys as well as Caila Kirkpatrick and Adelaide Elsom for the girls. Jules Holloway and Emily Swindell were victorious in the under-11s.

Multiple winners included Ryan Purse, who won the under-13 cross country cup and the Dave Buck cross country cup. Aidan Turner also won the under-17 cross country cup, and Jules Holloway, who had an outstanding year breaking four club records.

Hannah Westhenry, Holly Anderson, Ryan Purse, Ben Jones, Eve Montgomerie, Caila Kirkpatrick also set the Harriers’ bar higher, achieving new club records.

Other major awards were the Sunshine Cup for dedication and enthusiasm, given in memory of young athlete Sophie Llewellyn, which was presented to Jamie Van den Berg, with the club scholarship going to Ben Kinsey.
