JAY Lelliott insists his growing medal haul at the British Swimming Championships proves he’s back on track.

The Portland ace approached the Championships with a return to form in mind after fighting his own personal battle against illness.

And he continued his week with a bronze in the 1500m freestyle this evening, his time of 15mins 09.51secs comfortably beating Swansea’s Daniel Jervis in fourth.

“I tried to go with it in the first 500 metres but it was just too much, I'm disappointed that I didn't get the time that I wanted,” Lelliott said.

“About three weeks before these Championships I was ill for a fortnight and out of action, and I've had shoulder problems all year.

“We've been training all around and in places that I haven't heard of in 25m pools and 35m pools.

“I'm not making excuses and I have had to work with what I have got so all things considered I’ve done okay, and if I wasn't ill then maybe I could have got down to 14:58.

“My personal best is sub 15 seconds, so I would have liked to have got that, but looking at it now I'm not sure that was realistic.

“I can't complain, to get the silver in the 200m fly last night was fantastic and to get two medals is better than I have ever done, so I’m happy.”
