THE action came thick and fast as Weymouth ABC held another successful dinner boxing show at Weymouth Pavilion.

A packed crowd began the night by remembering the late Brian Copp, who no doubt would have loved some of the fights that then followed.

Oliver Carr was first in the ring for the host club as he took on Syndeham’s Brandon Haddon.

It was close throughout but Carr emerged the winner on points for a third victory over Haddon.

William Mullen had faced Josh Bennett in a skills bout last November but this time the gloves were on for real.

Bennett held the upper hand going into the last round, however, Mullen came back and forced his rival to take a standing eight count. Mullen got the decision in the end.

Sixteen-year-old Maisie Whickham shared the first two rounds against Cody Bymes (Heart of Portsmouth). This contest again went to the wire and it was Bymes who nicked it on points.

Priorswood’s Keegan Griffiths was the opponent for Leon Fowler, who produced his best performance in a Weymouth vest.

Southpaw Fowler was on top throughout and his solid punches gave him a unanimous verdict.

Making her Weymouth debut was Kelly Robinson, and she started well against Wessex’s Marianne Michaels.

Robinson won round one, Michaels claimed the next, and the latter clinched the last.

Lewis Chambers, 28, caught Poole’s Daniel Ford with some powerful combinations in the early stages of their tussle.

Halfway through the third a flurry of punches from Chambers saw him knockout his rival.

Meanwhile, Colum Siddons made his first appearance for Weymouth in five years when facing Sydenham’s Lewis Scutt.

But it was a short contest for Siddons as he was knocked down in the first and the referee waved the fight off.

Anthony Spence also made his debut on the pavilion show, going toe-to-toe with Jacob Bowley from Wells. Unfortunately for Bowley, he injured his shoulder in the third round and was unable to continue.

And Maciej Sieradzki, like Spence a member of the Weymouth ABC-based Grey Ranks, enjoyed a quick win over Dave Winston.

After the show, Weymouth club president Dave Nelmes thanked the event’s sponsors and Phil Say and the pavilion staff for their help in staging the show.
