FOLLOWING their AGM at the Wessex Royale Hotel, Dorchester Athletics Club celebrated the last 12 months with a trophy and presentation night.

Maddy Herbert, Zoe Allan and Pippa McCarthy finished the year as the top three girls, while on the boys’ side the honours went to Jim Carter, Billy Winch and Reece Nutman.

The awards for the top under-11 girl and boy, chosen by coach Jean Matthews, went to Alice Bendall and Winch respectively.

Runners-up were Lilly George and Daniel Perry, Katlin Cottrell was third for the girls and there was a dead heat between Vince Mason and Joe Cooke in the boys.

Meanwhile, the younger athletes also compete outdoors in the QuadKids event, which comprises of 60m and 600m races, long jump and 'howler' throw. Nutman won this with Winch second.

Maddie Johnson was the standout performer in the endurance squad’s Wessex Cross Country League campaign, winning her section while also representing Dorset at the inter-counties and English schools events.

Johnson is the club’s current cross country champion after beating her mum, Francis, into second with Shelby Cross third.

Not to be outdone by his sister, winning the men’s title was Fergus Johnson, with coach Nigel Furness and senior Clint Cornick second and third respectively.

Maddie Johnson also produced the club’s outstanding endurance performance on the track, winning the Nick Nicholson Trophy for her performance over 1200m with a time of 4mins 1.03secs.

The role of honour in the individual events was very similar to last year with Grace Butt, Imogen Slade and Rachel Dumbrell retaining their titles in the sprints, jumps and hurdles respectively.

Honor Slade regained the endurance trophy, winning it for the third time in four years, while the women’s throws champion was Kirsty Wickham.

The other sprint medallists were Martha Baker and Anna James, with Maddy Herbert with Niamh McLeish runners-up in the endurance events.

Throws champion Wickham also picked up second place in the jumps and third in the hurdles.

Imogen Slade collected a second medal for finishing as runner-up in the hurdles, as did Honor in the throws. Kelly Allen and Eva Bowring were third in the jumps and throws respectively.

Showing her ability with ranking points in all event disciplines, it was no surprise that the new name on the ladies’ multi-events trophy was Imogen Slade.

The overall junior women’s champion was Bowring, followed by Beth Trewartha and Allan.

There was a three-way battle for the senior women’s overall title between the Slade sisters and Wickham. And by the smallest of margins it was Wickham who retained her title from Honor and then Imogen.

As with the ladies, three men also retained their discipline titles. Robinson Okumu, Jacob Coombs and Ryan Smith triumphed in the sprints, hurdles and throws respectively.

Second in both sprints and throws was James Tuffnail, third in the sprints was Max Fitzgerald-Zimmer, while Alistair Tuck took third in the throws.
