THE Weymouth Squash & Fitness Centre second team wrapped up a splendid league and cup double by winning the Dorset Squash & Racketball Division Four and Five Cup final.

The team of Justin Merritt, Gary Biles, Richard Edgeley, Mark Long and Brian Stalker beat Canford Seconds 4-1 in the final at the West Hants Club in Bournemouth.

Stalker got the team off to a great start when he recovered from 2-1 down to take the last two games and win a very tight match 3-2.

Long was next on court and, despite being hindered by a back spasm in the second game, he blew away his opponent 3-0 in no time at all, never giving the Canford player a way into the match.

Edgeley then faced a very stylish player in Sharnine Coleman and could easily have been in trouble, however, she was no match for his power hitting.

He won a closely fought match 3-0 to give Weymouth an unassailable lead and the cup.

With the contest won, captain Biles and Merritt had the luxury of being able relax and not worry about their results.

In another close battle, this time in terms of points and not games, Biles played some excellent controlled squash to win 3-0.

Merritt was last on court against a very strong opponent in Greg Bowden, who was out to salvage some pride for his team.

The Weymouth man played well and put Bowden under pressure, but he never quite accumulated enough points to take a game off the Canford ace, who won 3-0.

The overall 4-1 win for the Weymouth team was a great credit a side who had a couple of regulars missing in Lee Biles (unavailable) and Anthony Saunders (injured).

The team had also been confirmed as the Dorset Squash & Racketball Division Four champions a few weeks earlier.

They held off local rivals Bridport Seconds to win the crown by a convincing nine points, having lost only two matches all season.
