NEARLY 200 hardy souls braved the elements to swim, cycle and run the GU Energy Weymouth Bay triathlon.

The BustinSkin Events challenge was made up of three races over increasing distances around the town.

And as well as a number of personal best times being set in the sprint, classic and half iron tests of endurance, there was plenty of success for the host club.

BustinSkin athletes came home first in each of the three categories, while they had a total of 13 top-10 finishes.

Andy Sloan led the way in the gruelling half iron triathlon, taking top honours in a time of 4:41.01hrs, more than two minutes ahead of club-mate Giles Heaman.

Jonathan Cooper of Egdon Heath Harriers was third and BustinSkin’s Andrew Jardine fourth.

In the classic, Luke Voss claimed first in 1:58.49, Hamish Gallacher (Royal Navy) was second and BustinSkin’s Andy Marsh made up the top three (2:06.57).

Clint Cornick (fifth), Nicolas Ireland (seventh) and Adam Gough (10th) also shone for BustinSkin.

Five host club members finished in the top 10 in the sprint race. Michael Cottrell was first (1:11.05), Lloyd Cranny second (1:11.14), Ian Hughes fifth, Pete Fry eighth and Steve Schurek 10th.

The course proved a big hit with the competitors and BustinSkin chief Mark Steen was thrilled with the turnout.

Following the event he was inundated with positive feedback from those who took on the challenge.
