JURASSIC COAST RAPTORS 24 MAIDSTONE PUMAS 7

THE Dorchester-based Jurassic Coast Raptors marked their first official league game with a 24-7 victory over visiting Maidstone Pumas.

Greasy conditions made handling tricky for both sides early on in what started off as a defensive struggle.

But it was the Raptors who scored first when Jamie Prosser tackled the Maidstone ball carrier for a safety.

An impressive Raptors’ defence scored again when Dan Rogers intercepted a Maidstone pass for a touchdown. Steve Bundy converted to give the home side a 9-0 lead.

The Raptors’ offence then began to find their rhythm and quarterback Tommy Dee finished off a drive by throwing a touchdown pass to receiver Chris Coles for a 15-0 advantage.

Going into the second half, the Raptors continued to play a strong defence and the offence continued to move the ball.

Running back Luke Brown took the ball up the middle with a long run and was eventually brought down at the one-yard line.

Bundy finished things off three plays later with a short yardage touchdown. He then added the extras to make it 22-0.

Things got even better for the hosts when the Raptors’ defence scored another safety.

Maidstone did manage to get a score in the last 30 seconds which was converted to make the final score 24-7.

The Raptors would like to thank Dorchester RFC and the sponsors, without whom the game wouldn’t have been possible.
