BUDMOUTH College student Sophia Hurrion helped Bath University to glory at the 12U Aegon Premier Team finals in Roehampton.

A fantastic 12-18 summer season came to end with the winners decided over two highly exciting days at the National Tennis Centre.

The tournament saw more than 5,900 teams competing across events from 8U to open (adult) in more than 40 leagues.

Twenty-four of these teams, who had all won their respective Tier One Region between April and June, were present in Roehampton to battle it out for the boys’ and girls’ age group titles.

The 12U girls’ final four consisted of Gosling Tennis Centre, USN Bolton Arena, University of Warwick Tennis Centre and the University of Bath Tennis Centre represented by Amelia Bissett, Jess Doerr, Hurrion, Amy Leather and Eleanor Nobbs.

The weekend concluded with the final between Gosling and Bath, providing some excellent tennis and entertainment for the spectators.

In a see-saw tussle, the teams found themselves level at 3-3 after the singles and doubles rubbers but it was the team from Bath who edged it to come out on top with Amelia Bissett and Hurrion winning the deciding 10-point doubles shoot-out 10-5.

Hurrion, who is Dorset’s number one and currently ranked 35th nationally said: “There was a fantastic team spirit all weekend with every player playing their part in two tight matches.

“It was the best tennis experience I have ever had and the team Bath captain, Craig Proctor, was brilliant.

“I am going to have a well-deserved rest before training hard through the winter with my coach, Tom Beach at Virgin Active, and the team at Bath University.”
