WEYMOUTH Women’s Volleyball Club are on the brink of finalising a major sponsorship deal that will secure the whole of this and next season’s at elite level, including entry into next year’s National Knockout Cup.

A provisional deal has already been agreed with a local company and contract details are due to be discussed at the end of the month.

The club now has a fully established base of players who are completely committed to the National Tournament set up, plus playing friendlies and exhibition matches in order to help develop new player participation.

Ideally the club would like to re-enter the National League in its own right (Weymouth Women last withdrew in 2005), but all of the players are currently of Super 8 Standard.

Volleyball England’s rules also state that all new applying teams entering the National League must do so at the base level which is Division Three.

Weymouth would then have to spend four years of continuous promotion to get back to the level that they are currently playing at in tournament volleyball.

The National League, with the current squad at present, has therefore been ruled out.

The club is however dedicated to providing a base for local youth and women who would like to aim at National League volleyball.

Funding maybe available to start training in Weymouth with both the elite players, coaching staff and local players to enable the club to form a town-based women’s second team to enter National League at the lower Division Three level in one or two years’ time
