CAFÉ OASIS 30 NOOK PHOENIXES 10

CAFE Oasis ran out comfortable winners over valiant new side Nook Phoenixes in Division Two of the South & West Dorset League.

A strong start by Oasis saw them take an early lead.

Nook worked hard, playing the ball around the court and using great space, but despite feeding the ball in to the circle well, great work by Oasis’ defensive duo Jaqueline Swindell and Sam Swanson denied them.

Nook came back strongly in the second quarter, their defence worked very hard to keep the ball out of the hands of Oasis and great motivation by Wendy Doyle kept her team morale high.

By the third quarter it appeared Nook could not keep up with Café Oasis’ fast paced play, and impressive shooting by Candice Barton made sure there was no way her team would lose.

Despite Nook’s game improving in the last quarter and, some accurate shooting by Nicole Morrissey, they were unable to catch up and succumbed to defeat.

BELLE CONSTRUCTION 40 FITNESS WORLD 31

EARLY accurate shooting from Laura Gardner gave Fitness the lead, however, patient attacking play and great feeding from Caitlin Dive allowed Belle to catch up and the game went goal for goal.

Fitness again started the stronger of the two in the second quarter with strong play by Shelly Stevens, but Belle, motivated by Louise Buglar, steadied the ship and closed the gap.

Both teams made some spectacular interceptions, particularly Belle’s Lauren Walker, but neither team could convert with a number of wayward passes.

A few changes in the Belle line-up in the third quarter had an instant impact on the game, that combined with goal-attack Leanne Holmes’ on point shooting, earned her side a comfortable lead.

Despite their impressive play Fitness were unable to close the gap and Belle won with a convincing nine-goal margin.

AUTOBITZ 55 JD WETHERSPOON 29

DESPITE never giving up, JD Wetherspoon were unable to match the effortless play of Autobitz.

With impressive shooting by Karen Hall they took an early five-goal lead.

Key interceptions by JD’S Lauren Banks and motivation by Centre, Sarah Carman, kept JD’s morale up and they started to find their feet in the game.

JD started the third quarter with a bit more control of the game and good shooting by Sam Rees kept her team in the game, however an outstanding performance by Bitz’ Becky Hallett kept the ball away from the JD shooters for a while and more clinical shooting kept Bitz ahead.

WAIKIKI 39 WYKE SMUGGLERS 27

AN EVEN start by both teams saw them go goal for goal and, despite good interceptions and rebounds by Waikiki’s Lauren Stones, her team were unable to capitalise and sway the game in their favour and the first quarter finished 7-7.

Accurate feeds by Wyke’s Julie Gear kept her team in the game but Waikiki were strong defensively through the whole court, allowing them to take a three-goal lead.

Both teams continued their impressive game play in the final quarter, but Cristal Butcher had got her eye in by now, scoring some excellent goals and allowing Waikiki to extend their lead to take the game.
