WEYMOUTH LADIES II 6 SWANAGE & WAREHAM III 0

DOMINANT Weymouth came out fighting from the outset and an early pass across the D from Sonya Hughes saw Jodie Stone connecting and finding the back of the net within the first five minutes.

This pressure continued time and time again across the visitors D but it wasn’t until the 25th minute that Claire Harding’s cross was deflected high and Sarah Treadwell confidently controlled the ball back down and in a swift turn struck and hit the backboard.

Weymouth then relaxed briefly allowing Swanage to change the course of play and to make a couple of breaks into the Seasiders’ half but they failed to take advantage.

Sensing that they had taken their eyes of the ball, Weymouth stepped up again and Claire Thomasson made a fine shot on goal but it was deftly saved on the line by a Swans’ defender.

However, determined efforts led to a repeat action by Thomasson and this time the shot was successful to make the score 3-0 at half-time.

The second half continued in the same vein with Annalise Dive adding to the total within two minutes. The Swans conceded a short corner in the 50th minute — the shot was injected by Stone to Thomasson who slipped to Dive who added her second goal to the scoresheet.

In the 55th minute, Weymouth had a short corner advantage and again this was injected by Stone to Thomasson who slipped to Alice Furness who slap passed the ball across the goalmouth in a foray of defenders.

Stone deflected and found the net only to discover the whistle had already been blown for a defending foot foul.

The umpire stepped up and awarded a penalty flick, this was taken by Stone but saved by the Swans’ keeper who made numerous saves throughout t keep her team’s heads up but to add insult to injury, Dive sealed the visitors’ fate by scoring her third and Weymouth’s sixth and justly deserved her award of player of the match.

Weymouth Ladies II take a half-term break and are back with an away fixture against Wimborne Wayfarers II on Saturday, November 7.
