SEABOROUGH handler Harry Fry celebrated double delight in what was a highly successful day’s racing for Dorset trainers at Wetherby over the weekend.

While Colin Tizzard had both Cue Card and Billy No Name land victories in their respective outings, Fry secured a double through the duo of Charmix and Blue Buttons.

Going off in the opening race of the meeting, Charmix stayed on well with Noel Fehily on board to see off the challenge of 11-10 favourite Ennistown.

And although stable star Rock on Ruby was edged out coming second in the bet365 West Yorkshire Hurdle, Fry only had to wait until the following race to record his second winner of the afternoon.

With Fehily on board once more, Blue Buttons, warranted the 2-1 favourite’s tag to beat second-placed Intense Tango.

Speaking about his yard’s display, Fry told his official Website: “A double at Wetherby on Saturday with Charmix and Blue Buttons briefly put an end to our frustrating run of near misses in recent weeks.

“We were soon hitting the crossbar again during the afternoon as Voix D’Eau, Jolly’s Cracked It and He’s A Charmer were all beaten narrowly at Ascot while Rock On Ruby did well to finish second on ground that was much too soft for him at Wetherby on his first attempt over three miles.

“It seems wherever we go with Ruby the going turns against him. It is so tough on the horse because he tries so hard every time he runs.”

He added: “It is fair to say, though, that the testing conditions at Wetherby were ideal for the ever reliable Blue Buttons who excelled in winning the Listed olbg.com Mares’ Hurdle by five lengths in the colours of the Harry Fry Racing Club.

“My original plan was to switch her to a new career over fences at Wincanton on November 19. But she won so well at Wetherby I might just look for another Listed mares race for her over hurdles.”

Speaking further about winner Blue Buttons, jockey Fehily added: “She’s a very tough mare, Harry has done a great job placing her and she’s kept improving.

“I wouldn’t say she wants the ground that soft, but she’s just so tough and jumps well.”

Fry added: “Noel also rode Charmix to victory on his debut over hurdles at Wetherby. It was good to see the horse back on track after a disappointing run in a bumper at Aintree in May when he was far too keen for his own good.

“I liked the way Charmix found more at Wetherby when pressed by the favourite Ennistown in the closing stages. Hopefully there is more to come from him.”
