WEYMOUTH’S Bryony Shaw has been nominated for the Sky Sports Sportswoman of the month for October.

The 32-year-old, who trains at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, features on the shortlist for the prize alongside cyclists Katie Archibald and Laura Trott, golfer Lydia Ko, para-athlete Sophie Hahn and cricketer Sarah Taylor.

Shaw has enjoyed a fruitful spell of late as she retained her title at the ISAF Sailing World Cup Final in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

The Olympic bronze medallist dominated her fleet, winning seven of the races, including the medal race, to take gold by nine points over Italy’s Flavia Tartaglini.

She also secured silver at the RS:X World Championships a week previously.
