THOMAS Brown made his debut over a fences a winning one with a stylish success in the Iron Stand Beginners' Chase at Ascot for Harry Fry.

The 8-13 favourite proved to be a class above his three rivals after making all the running. Although the strong-travelling Bon Chic attempted to serve it up to the six-year-old approaching the second-last, his effort quickly came to nothing.

After putting in a pair of solid jumps over the final two fences, the dual hurdles winner quickly drew clear up the run, beating Bon Chic by nine lengths.

Fry said: "It was the ideal starting point for him.

"It was always about getting to this point and going chasing. He always looked a chaser and you can see by the way he jumped why we were looking forward to it.

"That was plenty short enough today and he's done it nicely.

"We will look for a better race in three or four weeks. Quite where we go I will have to look and see, but there is Cheltenham in December and a better novice here next month so it will be something like that."
