DORSET’S Rachael Green has been presented with point-to-point racing’s leading small trainer award for the 2014/15 season.

Green and her husband, Anthony Honeyball, attended a glittering ceremony at the Cotswold Water Park where she received the award for her 11 victories with Cock Of The Rock and Silver Token, all partnered by jockey of the moment Harry Cobden, who was working for the Honeyballs at the time.

The small trainer award is for trainers with seven horses or less.

Green has campaigned four, with Cock Of The Rock and Silver Token, who are both owned by Cobden, winning 11 races between them and the former also earning the joint leading horse award.

Seventeen-year-old Cobden, who is now also with Paul Nicholls, was also at the ceremony to pick up the leading novice rider award.

Cobden recently hit the headlines when he rode Old Guard to win the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham.

“It was wonderful to see him do that,” said Green. “A win like that is an incredible achievement, and he’s so young too.

“We gave Harry his first ever win under rules, and mine as a trainer too, when El Mondo, one of our four pointers, won a two-mile hunter chase at Leicester in March.”

It is the second season Green has trained point-to-pointers, but with her first baby due next April, it is likely to be her last for a while.

She went on to add: “We need to make the National Hunt horses the priority, and, with our first baby on the way, now seems like a good time to take a pull with the pointers.

“I love pointing and it is a sport that has been very kind to me.

“We had one pointer the season before last to encourage a couple of girls in the yard who wanted to gain some race riding experience.

“Then this year another lad and Harry wanted to ride so we thought we’d see if we could have a couple more so we spoke to Frank Berry, JP McManus’ racing manager, and El Mondo was added to the string, and Fountains Flypast was campaigned too.

“We had a great season and it was a lot of fun. I hope one day I will have a few more to train, but for now we need to focus on the jumpers, and I will be busy enough with our new addition!”
