WEYMOUTH LADIES 1 TEIGN 6

WEYMOUTH suffered another thumping from Teign after losing 7-0 earlier in the season.

After two previous wins and a strong squad available, Weymouth went into the game with confidence, but were hit by an early blow.

Almost immediately, the away team broke quickly and planted the ball into the back of the goal, catching the Seasiders’ defenders and keeper off guard.

After the first goal against them, the home team lost their confidence and, as a result, their concentration suffered.

Teign took advantage of the breakdown in play and put another strike into the back of the net.

The rest of the first half saw excellent play from both sides, with good attacking play down the right between skipper Wendy Butcher and Emily Austin.

The midfield, particularly player of the match Casey Foot, was consistent in breaking down the oppositions’ attacks and feeding the ball to the forwards.

Just before the half-time whistle and following a controversial umpiring decision, Teign put a third past the keeper.

The second half saw some promising play from the Seasiders, which was demonstrated by a sweeping goal from Anneka Rogers.

Unfortunately, the home side couldn’t hold off the attacks from Teign and the visitors netted three more.

The final score was 6-1 to the away team.

SALISBURY V 1 WEYMOUTH LADIES II 3

BOTH teams made a strong start, although excellent play from Salisbury won them a penalty corner in the first minute which they were able to convert.

Not letting the Salisbury goal dishearten them, Weymouth retaliated with a strong attack from Claire Thomasson and Annalise Dive, who kept the ball in the attacking quarter.

Salisbury were quick to the ball and broke away, but the Weymouth defence regained possession and moved play back into the Seasiders' half with some great passes between Issie Gilliver and Alice Furness.

Weymouth kept possession with lots of fast play and Dive’s run into space created a chance for Olivia Treadwell to score by the post.

Following the goal, Weymouth maintained composure with accurate passing in the midfield from Stone and Thomasson.

Skilful play from Dive enabled her to bring the ball past the keeper and score, leaving Weymouth with a 2-1 advantage at the interval.

The Seasiders continued to attack from the start of the second half and, following numerous tackles, Jodie Stone found the net.

Weymouth continued their solid teamwork and Claire Harding and Jodie Stone won a short corner which was saved by the Salisbury keeper.

The Seasiders remained in control to bag an impressive 3-1 victory.
