BAY FENCING 43 WYKE SMUGGLERS 30

BAY Fencing got their season off to a solid start with a comfortable victory over Wyke Smugglers in Division One.

A strong start was made by both teams in what was their first game of the season, however good team work and superb shooting from Wyke’s Sue Cox and Erin Kinghorn gave them an early lead. Despite strong defending from Bay’s Jess Quickfall, the first quarter ended with her team six goals behind.

A few positional changes in the second quarter saw Bay Fencing begin to close the gap with good shooting from Emily Park and Charlotte Reid, although they were under great pressure from Wyke’s goalkeeper, Katherine Wilberforce.

Bay managed to keep control of the ball in this quarter with great play and pressure in the centre court from Bec Miles, which meant the quarter finished equal at 16-goal apiece.

In the third quarter, it was Wyke who made changes in their line-up, and although Freyja Ellis’ consistent balls into the circle were impressive, her shooters weren’t able to find the net. This helped Bay take the lead.

Both teams refused to give up in the final quarter, continuing with their persistent strong play, however it was Bay who managed to secure the victory.

BELLE CONSTRUCTION 38 AUTOBITZ 24

AUTOBITZ started this game the stronger of the two teams, however they managed to miss a few critical shots to extend their advantage.

Autobitz’ Sammy Whisker controlled the court, feeding great passes into her shooters, however Belle’s goal defence Louise Buglar was determined to intercept the ball.

Despite a strong defence on Belle’s side, Autobitz finished the first quarter one goal ahead.

But it was Belle who ended up dominating the game as a whole. Despite their play being broken a few times by great interceptions by Autobitz’ Becky Hallett, Belle responded by sinking some impressive goals through both Leanne Holmes and Laura Bucke.

Now into the swing of the game, Belle continued with flawless passes and play, which increased their lead even more.

Autobitz’s Karen Hall refused to be defeated however, and continued to increase her goal tally. The third quarter ended with Belle seven goals in the lead.

Autobitz had been a player down since the second quarter due to injury, however their strong game play made this un-noticeable and they refused to give up in the closing stages in this competitive game.

Fierce defending from Belle kept their team ahead until the final whistle.

BEAMINSTER 21

BOTH teams started the new campaign with good clean passes throughout the centre court.

Beaminster’s Jane Alexander fed well into her goal attack Kat Frampton, who held her space to her advantage and scored well.

Despite great attacking play from Beaminster, strong defending from Tasha Lund and Jo Davies kept Ayya in the lead.

Movement from Ayya was consistent in the second quarter with good attacking play.

Jane Snarey made some great passes into her shooters, and Elaine Robertson used these to her advantage scoring well in the second period.

The third quarter saw Beaminster make some positional changes, and this gave them a new lease of life.

Ayya maintained their composure after this setback, pushing hard from defence.

Good interceptions from Beaminster’s Emma Bowditch gave her team hope and kept the ball in the play of her shooters to increase their goal count.

Beaminster refused to give up, however, Ayya’s experience was too strong as they took their first win.
