LOUISE WOODROW 21 CAROLINE WILSON 7

DORCHESTER starlet Louise Woodrow became one of the youngest recipients of the County Filly Cup, when defeating Caroline Wilson of the Dolphin Indoor Bowls Club, in the final played at Moonfleet Indoor Bowls Club.

The game began with both players anxious to find the green and settle down to a consistent line and length, and the first four ends all produced singles and a tied up score of 2 shots a piece.

The first significant score was posted by Woodrow when she picked up three shots for a 5-2 lead, and the chance to forge ahead and take control, but Wilson not to be outdone took a duo to ease one shot behind at 4-5.

The younger player then demonstrated her more consistent all round play and growing confidence by taking the game by the scruff of the neck, winning the next seven ends to establish a commanding 18-4 lead and it seemed the game was done and dusted.

Wilson momentarily halted Woodrow’s progress by bouncing back to win two consecutive ends and give the suggestion of a comeback, but it was to be short-lived as Woodrow continued to stay focused, finished off a polished performance with a two and a single.

In a season where Woodrow, 16, had also qualified for two national finals as a member of a Dorchester mixed pairs and mixed fours team, and had retained the club's under-25 title, the winning of her first senior singles title was icing on the cake.
