TEAM WAIKIKI 33 STIKA 14

TEAM Waikiki stormed to victory over Stika.

Both teams started well with centre-court players making great interceptions.

Good marking in the shooting circle from Stika’s Ellen Sandrey prevented Waikiki taking an early lead.

However, there was no stopping GS Cristal Butcher as she put her side seven goals ahead by the end of the first quarter.

Waikiki started strongly again in the second period despite fine defensive movements from Stika’s Ali Caller.

Stika then made a determined effort and GA Julie Bell scored several goals.

Jo Baldwin started the third quarter with a cracking interception keeping the game in Waikiki’s favour, not to mention flawless shooting in the circle. Stika’s Lauren Robertson responded to this, controlling the court and feeding in to her shooters well.

Despite all of Stika’s hard work, Waikiki continued to control the game to the final whistle, and stormed ahead to take the win.

Division Two

WJNC 37 CAFÉ OASIS 15

WEYMOUTH Juniors earned a convincing win over Café Oasis.

Both teams get off to a confident start, hoping to earn more points within the league, however, it was WJNC who got the better of this match.

From the first whistle, WJNC played the ball around the court effortlessly, finding GA Skyla Erskine in good space and ready to score.

Playing with six was starting to show for Café Oasis, however, Juliet Frampton refused to quit, making great interceptions and feeding the ball to her shooters well.

Unfortunately, Oasis’ shooters couldn’t find the net in this quarter and WJNC increased their lead to 12 goals.

Determined not to be the losing side, both sides came out fighting in the third quarter.

Good strong passes around court from all and some key interceptions were made in the centre court.

Using her height to her advantage, GK for Oasis, Alison Frampton, was always around for the rebound, keeping the ball in her team’s possession.

Fatigue had started to show in the final quarter with some silly mistakes being made.

However, with motivational coaches on the side-line, WJNC stepped up the pace one final time taking a pretty convincing win.

Division One

POACHERS 62 OJO’S 30

SLICK play from Poachers helped earn them an excellent victory over Ojo’s.

Energetic centre-court play from the off and precision shooting netted Poachers a quick succession of goals.

However, this did not deter Ojo’s whose attackers kept pushing for an opening to take the lead.

With some changes in their line-up, Ojo’s came out fighting in the second quarter and closed the gap to four goals.

Rebecca Drake’s energetic play was key for Ojo’s, as she controlled the centre court. Despite their determination and hard work, Ojo’s couldn’t catch Poachers with GS Sam Shewbridge extending their lead again.

Poachers increased their advantage again in the third quarter, with intuitive play from Nicole Birley.

In the closing quarter, Poachers’ slick play overcame Ojo’s grit and determination at every turn.

Premier Division

WATERSIDE 52

CRESTA LEISURE 25

SHOOTING duo Ali Holmes and Sue Lee helped fire Waterside to success over Cresta Leisure.

However, fantastic interceptions from Jayne Guppy foiled Waterside for a while, allowing Cresta to keep play in their possession and only to be behind by three goals.

Both teams continued to play excellent netball in the second quarter with substitute Jen Emslie coming on and bringing a whole new dimension to the Waterside team.

With the new lease of life, Waterside start to edge away from a determined Cresta team.

Waterside capitalised on a tiring Cresta side in this quarter, increasing their lead even further despite great interceptions and good court play from Cresta’s Lucy Astrid.

A fast-paced quarter closed this game with Cresta refusing to quit but were unable to catch Waterside.
