MORE than 20 Dorset Pentathletes competed in the Burnham-on-Sea Triathlon, which was the first South West series race of the season.

The day got off to a good start with all of the Dorset competitors sailing through the gearing checks new for the series this year.

George Mahon in the Tri Star One boys has had a good start to the season already with some good results under his belt and this continued at Burnham as he pushed a very good biker Lawrence Martindale into second to take gold.

In the girls’ race, Skye Fisher, who has shown a lot of promise in training recently, carried her good form into this race by claiming second place, an agonising two seconds off gold.

Holly White, who is making good progress with her biking, did well to finish fifth.

Next up were the Tri Star Two boys, which saw three county boys going head to head.

Finn Pardy came out on top, finishing in sixth position with Jake Fisher not far behind in eighth.

James Carr, who had been going well, made a mistake on the course and did not get a score.

In the girls’ race, there was only one Dorset competitor but as with earlier races the quality was clear with Alex Palotai-Avella claiming first place continuing where she left off last year.

Moving on to the Tri Star Three races, the Pentathletes had seven boys competing in the largest field of the day with 37 athletes.

Harry Odanaghue took the win despite suffering from stomach problems on the run leg finishing just ahead of last year’s winner Ben Cumberland.

Charlie Cook maintained his consistency with sixth place, while Fred Fisher was 15th, Ryan Symington took 16th and Archie Tyler did well in his first race finishing 19th.

Will Carr would have finished much higher up the field but received a time penalty following a transition error.

Josh Dreelan, also fairly new to triathlon, did well to claim 21st.

In the girls’ race, Dorset had a field packed with talent with seven lining up in the swim.

Daisy Davies led from the start powering her way to a substantial lead on the bike leg and didn’t look back finishing first with just over a two-minute margin on second-placeD Abbie White who made it a Pentathlete one-two having had a great battle all the way round with Jess Hudson who finished fourth.

Pheobie Mills had a good race finishing fifth with Anya Evans in 7th, Rosie Holland (10th) and Gemma Wyatt (20th).

With the club winning four out of the six golds on offer it was a very productive day and bodes well for the rest of the season.
