THE Jurassic Coast Raptors played their first home game at Dorchester Rugby Club hosting the undefeated and long established Oxford Saints.

The county town team’s backroom staff had put a lot of time and effort into promoting the event and it was fantastically well-attended with more than 150 spectators keen to see what American football had to offer in the way of entertainment.

David Cheeseman, the rugby club’s director of coaching, said: “It was a well organised, supported and entertaining event and we are excited to see something new at the club.”

The team again showed promise during the first quarter putting in solid tackles and moving the ball well.

It was by far their best performance to date but the Saints’ numbers and experience meant that they led at the end of the first quarter 12-0 with Great Britain running back James Walter scoring the first touchdown to open the floodgates.

The scoring pattern continued throughout the game as the Saints showed their dominance against their inexperienced counterparts.

The final score was 51-0 to the dominating visitors.

Head coach Bill Heinrich added: “We can take positives from our performance on Sunday with some big hits from our defence and some good running and pass blocking by the offence.

“We now have five weeks to prepare for our next game. With what we have learned so far, I believe we will now see our improvement turn into tangible results.”

The Raptors would like to thank their sponsors Blue Wizard Tattoo and YMT technologies.
