GEORGE BAR & GRILL 44
WATERSIDE 30
THE George earned the spoils after seeing off a depleted Waterside outfit.
Sue Stevens controlled the centre court for Waterside, creating good space and feeding in to her shooters well, not to mention covering for a missing WD.
Despite the George’s Rachel Scarff shooting well and having a player advantage, Waterside were ahead at the end of the first quarter.
The George dominated from the first whistle of the second quarter, with excellent defensive movement from Laura Pearsons putting great pressure on the Waterside shooters.
Being a player down, Waterside began to fatigue in the closing stages due to all of their hard work.
The George continue to dominate, extending their lead with great mid-court passes.
Despite being on her toes defending every shot, there was nothing Waterside’s Kiera Boardman could do to stop the ball going in.
Under pressure, Waterside upped their game one last time, with strong attacking play to close the gap, however, the George were already comfortably ahead and remained in possession until the final whistle blew.

Division One
POACHERS 64

STIKA 21

POACHERS got stuck in right from the off with an excellent goal straight away from Sam Shewbridge.
Stika reacted with tempo around the court with an equally brilliant goal from Karen Pomeroy.
Despite Stika’s hard work, Poachers began to creep ahead due to their excellent defence denying Stika’s shooters more opportunities.
Lovely play around the court continued into the second quarter with Poachers creating great space and throwing unstoppable passes.
Despite trying her best, Stika’s GD Claudia Crocker was unable to keep Poachers’ Sally Miller out of the circle.
Poachers continued to dominate in to the third, however a key interception from Louise Gilmore allowed Stika to regain possession and steal a goal.
Stika came out fighting in this quarter however, Poachers still had the edge.
Although great pressure was applied to the Poachers players, making them work really hard to earn a goal, Stika were unable to catch up.

PREMIER DIVISION
CRESTA LEISURE 58
GW ELECTRICAL 51

THERE was an even start from either team with smooth play around their attacking thirds.
However, persistent defending from mother-daughter duo Olivia and Claire May allowed Cresta to hold on to possession of the ball and end the first quarter just ahead of GW.
GW made some good passes around the court and into their shooters, which allowed them to close the gap and be level again with Cresta.
Good defending from GW’s Becci Nutman prevented Carolyn Allgood from getting near the post and pushing her team further ahead.
The second quarter ended with each team on 29 goals.
Being so close on the scoreline, both teams upped their games.
GW were making good turnovers in the centre third but Cresta’s attack was on the rise with Sue Wooley never missing a shot.
At the other end of the court, GS Steph Clarke also had her eye in, not missing any chance she was given.
Again, the quarter ended level, 44 goals each.
The closing stages of this closely matched game saw everyone’s game improve, just to give their team the chance of winning.
GW began to feel the pressure towards the end, some of their passes became rushed and weren’t going where they should.
Although GW never quit, Cresta had their game faces on and stole the win.

PREMIER DIVISION
NEW BODY FITNESS 34
BELLE CONSTRUCTION 33

BOTH top of the table, the sister teams came out fighting, with Belle appearing to have the edge over a six-player team for New Body.
Excellent shooting from Leanne Holmes and strong centre court play from Carly Dean-Lawes ensured Belle were winning at the end of the first quarter.
New Body appeared to be stronger at the beginning of the second quarter, with their 7th player arriving.
Despite some good interceptions from Lauren Leatherland, excellent play between Belle’s Caitlyn Dive and her shooters ensured Belle kept the lead.
Due to injury both teams started the third quarter with six players.
Both appeared to battle hard with some good positioning from Belle’s Laura Bucke. New Body had made some tactical position changes in this quarter, resulting in them taking the lead from Belle, who didn’t appear as confident in defence this quarter.
A strong start to the final quarter from both teams with some excellent play and shooting at either end.
New Body managed to nick the win minutes away from the final whistle.
