GILES Scott resumes his quest for debut Olympic Finn gold in Rio tomorrow by remaining the calmest person about his chances.

After today’s rest day, Portland-based Scott takes an 11-point advantage over silver medal positioned Vasilij Zbogar into the business end of the regatta, with four remaining Finn races scheduled before the final double points Medal Race next Tuesday.

Despite his lead, the four-time World Champion refused to get carried away after coming off the water on Wednesday insisting that with everyone in the top 10 carrying big scores, one slip up could see anyone tumbling down the rankings.

Scott picks up the heavyweight dinghy baton from previous British Olympic Finn champions, Iain Percy (Sydney 2000) and Ben Ainslie (Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012). But he insists that is not adding to the pressure.

Scott said: “The gold has been in British hands since 2000 and I would like to keep it that way obviously, but I wouldn’t say that that gives me any more pressure. I put pressures on myself to win anyway regardless of what’s gone on before me.

“If anything it’s a good thing, we have had a pathway put in front of us and since 2000 it has been a constant evolution, and over the past four years I have just been trying to evolve that myself.

“Everyone is in it to win some medals and I have been trying to do it for the last eight years and if I am able to do that it would cap off eight years of waiting and wanting. How it will feel I don’t really know but hopefully I will get to find it.”

Scott is scheduled to resume racing at 5pm (BST) tomorrow.
