WEYMOUTH will host round six of the National Waterski race of the 2016 series on Sunday, September 18.

The event will also be one of the selection races for the British team who will be representing their country at the World Waterski Racing Championships in Seattle, USA in July 2017.

Boats and teams from around the country will be coming to race in many categories.

The idea is to complete as many laps as possible over the space of a set time.

Race organiser Steve Bird said: “Weymouth Bay lends itself to being a showcase venue that these competitors will race at this year, coupled with excellent spectator vantage points it looks set to be a fantastic event.

“Depending on weather conditions, the event could see the Formula One crews touching approximately 100 miles per hour.

“There will be fierce competition this year as the team captain and committee will be there to select teams and skiers to represent the British Team in Seattle, USA next year.

“In the south west, we have some very strong teams, some of who will be looking to secure their position in the series.

“There will be a parade of the competitors prior to each of the races with commentary of the teams from the end of the harbour viewing area.

“There will be full race commentary on the day and we encourage all spectators of this free event and enjoy the razzamataz of this high adrenaline sport combining athletic ability with engineering supremacy.”
