WELSH International table tennis player Chloe Thomas and top coach Rowden Fullen will be guests at the Weymouth & District Table Tennis League open day on Saturday at Budmouth College.

They are both looking to encourage new players to take up table tennis, in particular showcasing opportunities for girls.

Thomas, who is the current national universities ladies champion, played at the last Commonwealth games in Glasgow and has travelled all over the world representing Wales.

Fullen also coaches England player Hannah Hicks and many of the top boys and girls in the country at the successful Bournemouth Sports Table Tennis Club and the Dorset Table Tennis Centre in Christchurch.

Youth players are welcome to attend the open day from 10am to 1pm, where there will be plenty of demonstrations and opportunities to practice with the coaches.

There will also be a session for local coaches and senior players from 11.30am to focus on the technical aspects of the game such as how it is changing with the new plastic ball and where to gain advantages.

Speaking on behalf of the league, Andy Millar said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for girls and boys to come down and see top class players and coaches in action.

“It is events like these that can inspire the next Chloe Thomas or Hannah Hicks to then go on and represent their Country.

“Weymouth and Dorset has a fantastic pathway of training and competitions for players of all ages and abilities to learn and enjoy the game and we have international players and coaches in the area who are keen to help and support players.”
