DAVE Smith carded an excellent nett 65 to score the lowest score in Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club's men's November medal, writes Peter Crowter.

Sixty-one players took the field with five coming in with nett scores in the 60s but the lowest of these by a considerable margin was by Smith in Division Three to earn him a two-shot handicap reduction.

His gross score of 84 was only two shots adrift of the winner of Division Two, Mike Chivers who topped that division with a nett 69.

The top two players in Division One both scored a gross 77 but the winner with a nett 68 was Dave Franks who nudged Gavin Gay into the runner-up spot by way of his one-shot higher handicap.

Veterans' Section

THURSDAY’S competition was a 14-hole Stableford, reduced by four holes to make time for the AGM, which was to follow.

The fine conditions produced some high scores and the winners of both divisions both carded 34 points which is the equivalent of nearly 44 points over 18 holes.

This was scored by Richard Lomax, leader of Division One and Division Two winner Terry Garrett.

Close behind in Division One was Malcolm Noble, who scored 33 points.

Ladies' Section

SATURDAY saw members playing a qualifying Stableford, writes Di Neal.

Janie Dowling took first place with 34 points and the runner-up after countback was Julie Woodruffe, also on 34 points.

The ladies played a game called 'cocktail' on Tuesday when three different formats are played over 18 holes.

The winners with 38 points were Roseanne Bonfield and Sue Pollock after countback from Maureen Hicks and Viv Gill (also 38pts).

Third place went to Di Stothard and Pat Baldwin on 34 points and the last of the prize winners were Heather Chapman and Margaret Thompson, who also had 34 points but lost out on countback.
