MORE than 100 hundred drivers and enthusiasts gathered at Wiscombe House to celebrate the Wiscombe Park Hillclimb Championship.

After a hard-fought campaign, encompassing nine qualifiers, Wellington’s Anthony Wright took the premier award and a cheque for £300 in his turbo-charged four-wheel-drive Audi A3.

The former circuit racer has consistently been in the race for the championship in recent years but has always been beaten to the finishing post but this year the operation manager amassed a points total of 90.08 to defeat second-placed and reigning champion Ian Ingleheart.

The Mercedes Benz master technician took his Westfield SEi to a tad over two points in arrears of the new champion and collected the Eric Moxom Memorial Trophy for his efforts.

The Westfield marque also featured in the final top-three placing with the Suzuki Megabusa-powered example of Shillingstone driver Andrew Forsyth claiming third place.

Woolbridge Motor Club member Forsyth’s points tally totalled 87.01.

Motorcycle action is a large part of the action at Wiscombe and nine-times champion Paul Jeffery secured the British Championships.

The final major trophy to be awarded was that of young driver of the year, the recipient of which has considerable experience of the Wiscombe course having initially competed on motorcycles prior to moving to four wheels with a Sylva Pheonix and then graduating to the single-seater car category at the wheel of a Suzuki-powered OMS Hornet.

James Gibson has made progress to now challenge more experienced drivers and also claimed second place in the Woolbridge Motor Club Speed Championship.
