BUDMOUTH A closed the gap on non-playing Budmouth B at the top of Division One this week in beating Springfield B 30-4.

Moses Lewis, Brad Burroughs and Tom Cherry each lost just a leg each for Budmouth with Chris Whitefield picking up half of Springfield’s points.

Park District moved within striking distance of the top with a just as convincing 30-6 win over YMCA.

Park’s Richard Wilshere ground out 3-2 victories over both Brian Hansford (3) and Steve White (2) in what could be crucial wins at the season end.

Preston B slipped to a much closer 23-16 defeat at the hands of Shipton Gorge A.

Stalwart Miranda Edwardes led Shipton to victory with a maximum and was backed up well by Gil Roberts (3) and Terry Whitworth (8).

Shipton Gorge B extended their lead at the top of Division Two after a 24-10 win over Colliton C.

Derek Wheeler (9) top scored for Shipton with Mark Whittingham (6) picking up two wins to top score for Colliton.

Pilgrims A closed the gap on their opponents Springfield C in defeating them 26-14.

Tim Scott (9) was in imperious form for Pilgrims and was well supported by Paul Beeston (8).

The highlight of the night was a titanic match between Springfield’s David Moth (5) and Beeston.

It finished 3-2 to Beeston and included some terrific hard-hitting rallies.

STEPS continue to dominate Division Three and secured their seventh straight win of the season with a 22-16 victory over Springfield D, their first defeat.

Paul Hammond currently tops the division’s averages and showed why in this match by securing a maximum.

Springfield’s Richard Wood (8) pushed him all the way but let a 2-1 lead slip including a 13-11 fifth set.

Budmouth D sit third after their tight 22-19 win at Wyke C.

Young Jed Brackenridge scored a full nine points for the school team with Josh Clark (7) and George Ackerley (3) giving good support.

Fourth-placed STEPS M picked up their third win of the season in beating Pilgrims B 24-12.

Mick Hogben (8) was their top scorer with Pilgrims’ Barry Thomas gaining a maximum despite being on the losing team.

Wey Valley Tennis Centre defeated the youngsters of Budmouth E 27-8 to gain their second win of the season.

Wey Valley’s Jess Moggeridge showed she will be a force to be reckoned with in years to come in not only the league but also further afield after picking up a maximum without losing a leg.

Jaimee Browne (5) top scored for Budmouth after beating Jon Dean (6) in five sets and narrowly losing out to Richard Lane (9) by the same score.

Wey Valley School also picked up their second win of the season with a 21-13 success over Preston D.

Both Jules Holloway and Ethan Bingham scored maximums for Wey Valley with Lynda Clegg (5) top scoring for Preston D, who continue to work hard for their first win of the season.
