IT WAS a cold, breezy morning for Bridport & West Dorset's Gold Club's Men’s December Medal on Sunday, writes Peter Crowter.

There were 60 starters and most seemed to cope with the conditions with seven carding nett scores in the 60s.

The best score of the day came from Division One where Mike Savage hit a fine score of 75-8=67.

This included 12 pars and a birdie two on the 10th.

Barry O’Mahoney finished second in that division with a nett 69.

George Brown topped Division Two with a nett 68 with Grant Gerrard was second after countback with a nett 69.

The best score in Division Three was also a nett 68 and this was scored by Kieran McAllister with Leslie Herbert taking the runner-up spot with a nett 69.

O’Mahoney and Herbert received one-shot handicap cut.

After the re-organisation of the administration in August this year when the club grouped the office with the Pro Shop, a single unit called the Golf Administration Centre to cater for all administrative and golfing needs was created, with a visiting teaching professional affiliated to the club.

The grand opening took place on Sunday, November 27 with Peter Ridler, a past secretary of many years service and his assistant Sandra Rees doing the honours.

DUE to the frosty conditions the Christmas Stableford was restricted to 16 holes and on temporary greens.

Despite the freezing conditions there was a good turnout of 65 players maybe encouraged by the fact that in this festive competition everyone receives a prize, mostly in liquid form.

There was some good, steady scoring but one man stood out from the crowd and that was Roy Gill (13) who with 41 points was three points clear of his closest rival and that was Brian Fearon (12) with 38.

Dudley Rose (28) was third with 37 points followed by Dougie Howells (19) with 36.

Then followed two players with 35 points with Mike McGrady (17) taking fifth place after countback.

The lady who took home the prize on Tuesday was Pat Baldwin with 33 points, second was Jane White on 31 points and the last of the meat vouchers went to Liz Thompson with 29 points.
