DORCHESTER Amateur Boxing Club are holding an open evening on Wednesday (7-9pm) after securing a new premises at Physiques & Shapes Gym, the Grove, Dorchester.

The nine coaches at the club all hold first aid certificates, are DBS checked and child safeguarding trained.

They are positive role models, encouraging fitness and a healthy lifestyle, as good eating and physical exercise tutors.

With the help of the coaches, they instil respect and confidence into youngsters with the aim of turning members into great sportsmen and excellent members of society.

Ben Geyser, a founder member of the club, has been involved with the sport for almost 70 years.

He said: “We are really pleased to find a new home for the club and want to let everyone know where we are.

“Boxing promotes health, fitness, discipline and above all lasting friendships.

“So if your new year’s resolutions are to get fit and make new friends then come along and see us.

“We are offering a free taster session to all those who come and are open to males and females.

Juniors start from the age of 11 upwards and adults from the age of 18 years of age.”

He continued: “We are really honoured as mayor Tim Harries is coming to officially re-open the club.”
