BUDMOUTH A put a dent in Park District’s Division One title hopes with a 24-16 win over the current table-toppers.

Moses Lewis secured a maximum for the loss of only two legs and was ably backed up by Ben Graham (6) and Tom Cherry (7).

John Ryan (7) top scored for Park.

Bad luck prevented Budmouth B taking full advantage of Park’s slip up but they did close the gap as average’s topping Jamie Blair was ruled out, literally at the last minute, due to illness.

However, Will Jolliffe and Ethan Gear did all they could to make up for their absent colleague by dropping only two legs to a Colliton X team who often hit some wonderful shots only to see the ball returned with interest.

The close legs all went Budmouth's way to give them a 21-11 victory.

Shipton were 14-16 behind going in to final singles of the night but Miranda Edwardes’ (9) 3-2 win over Andy Webb (6) and her 3-0 doubles win with Gil Roberts (4) earned them the victory.

Pete Anderson (6) was the top scorer for Springfield.

Andy Ray (5), Katherine Bundy (3) and Mark Whittingham (1) could do little to stop Preston C run out 27-9 winners in a one-sided match at Westfield Arts College.

STEPS remain atop Division Three despite not playing this week.

Springfield D closed the gap at the top with a 25-11 win over Preston D.

A really enjoyable evening of table tennis saw the ladies of Preston put up a good fight with some excellent rallies being played.

Lynda Clegg (4), Liz Wilkinson (4) and Christine Roy (3) all won a match apiece and the doubles couldn't have been much closer despite the 3-0 scoreline.

Pilgrims B staged an incredible comeback against Wey Valley School to score a 17-16 win.

After being 15-8 down after the first seven matches, they secured three wins for the loss of only one leg in the final two singles and the doubles to claw themselves back to victory.

Wey Valley’s Jules Holloway’s maximum will be scant consolation after being on the wrong end of such a close encounter.

Wyke C secured a close 21-16 win over Wey Valley Tennis Centre with a majority of matches going to four or five sets.
