BRIDPORT and West Dorset Golf Club held its Sunday men’s individual Stableford with an impressive 57 competitors taking to the course.

The slight wind didn’t have any effect on some good scores on the day, including the top three players in Division One all scoring 37 points. Marc Harwood took the victory on count-back with Ted Story and Pat Hart coming second and third respectively.

It was a similar story in Division Two as the top three were tied once again, this time scoring 38 points with Ken Stead winning on count-back. Nick Jones finished as runner-up while Mike Chivers came third.

The top score of the day came in Division Three where Robert Smith took the win with 40 points, a total which beat Christopher Wren into second (39) and Kieran McAllister into third (37).

Meanwhile the Bridport Hardy B team played their first cup match of the season, at home to Crane Valley and won 3-2.

Thursday saw the veterans’ first inter-club match of the season as they travelled to Taunton & Pickeridge, with the home side winning 4-2.

The competition at Bridport was self-entry, single Stableford with 52 players taking part.

The fog got almost thick enough for the players to be called in, but that didn’t deter the 52 players taking part.

Scores were tight at the top but it was Bob Harding who stood out, with a score of 40 points earning him a one shot handicap reduction, while Dave Boggis came second.

The ladies’ section saw the annual competition between the Saturday and the Tuesday ladies as they competed to win the Teapot Trophy.

Skippered by Avril Brown and Janie Dowling, the competition was played out over three days with the top scorers all coming from the Saturday team. Judy Walters took the win with 30 points, while Liz Thompson claimed second on count-back with 28, while Carole Brown came third.

The club also held their coffee morning on Tuesday morning, which raised money for Woofability, the charity supported by both club captains.
