NEW BODY FITNESS 47

JD WETHERSPOONS 25

NEW Body Fitness kept up the pressure on Premier Division leaders Belle Construction with a comfortable victory against JD Wetherspoons.

Both teams started strongly with rapid passing and strong defence but it was the accurate shooting of New Body Fitness that allowed them to pull ahead.

Wetherspoons fought hard with court position enabling them to drive the ball towards the shooters, but they then struggled to convert this territory into points.

New Body’s GS Emily Conning was in good form at the other end though, and extended her team’s lead.

Through the mid-period Wetherspoons scored some staggering goals from distance but tactical changes from New Body helped them net a string of goals in rapid succession to round off their win.

GEORGE BAR AND GRILL 18

BELLE CONSTRUCTION 31

Table-topping Belle Construction maintained their impressive start to the season with a 31-18 success over George Bar and Grill.

The first quarter saw some incredible action with fast, accurate play from both sides as Belle sneaked ahead by one goal.

Belle’s smooth passing down court was interrupted by exceptional defence from GD Bernadette Ford, while some vital interceptions from C Ellen Blackwood allowed them to add to their lead.

Superb athleticism from WD Carly Lawes then prevented George’s scoring opportunities despite determined play from WA Juliette Frampton.

Belle proceeded to pressurise George in the final quarter and their skill finally shone through in a match of high quality.

DIVISION ONE

BAY FENCING 32

OTC 24

Bay Fencing finally came out on top in their topsy-turvy Division One encounter with OTC, claiming a 32-24 win.

OTC took a few minutes to settle but soon found their stride to level the scores after initial excellent shooting from Bay GS Chaz Reid.

Well-timed interceptions from Bay’s GD Corinne March limited OTC’s opportunities to score, but they changed their defensive line-up at the break and promptly came back into the match.

OTC’s excellent team play nudged them into the lead but Bay scrambled to lead into the final quarter in a thrilling contest.

It was to be league leaders Bay who had the final word as they took charge in the final period with stifling defence and accurate shooting.

DIVISION ONE

WYKE SMUGGLERS 31

STIKA 27

Wyke Smugglers held off a determined Stika comeback to register a narrow 31-27 success and move into third in the table.

A strong start from Wyke’s GA Tracy Moore enabled her side to gain an early lead.

Although Stika fought back in the middle quarters with some fantastic mid-court defensive manoeuvres, Wyke’s defence worked tirelessly to maintain their lead into the final quarter.

Stika grew in the final period as GC Claudia Crocker capitalised on rebounds to lower the points difference but it was not quite enough as Wyke clung on for the win.
