CORNISH SHARKS 34

JURASSIC COAST RAPTORS 7

THE Jurassic Coast Raptors travelled to Newquay with less than ideal numbers due to injuries taking their toll late in the season.

The Dorset side faced a back-to-strength Cornish Sharks side that had been suffering with injuries themselves a couple of weeks before.

The Sharks’ defence has been stand-out this season, only allowing one other team to score a touchdown against them so the Raptors knew going into this contest the odds were stacked against them.

Initially the game was a defensive battle, with neither team moving the ball effectively.

But the Sharks dialled up a tricky double pass play that caught the Raptors’ defence completely on the wrong foot to score the opening touchdown.

With the Raptors’ offence still not moving the ball, the Sharks put together a long drive to score again, and then late in the second half, the Sharks’ quarterback launched a deep pass to the end-zone for a third touchdown.

The second half was a much more balanced affair, the Sharks scored again, but Raptors scored their own touchdown with a deep pass from Raptors’ quarterback Tom Davis to wide receiver Jack Phipps.

A late chance for a Raptors’ field goal was blocked.

So, with the final score 34-7 the Raptors travel to Torquay on Sunday for their penultimate game of the season to try to double their win tally for this year’s campaign, hopefully with a more complete squad.
