HAYDEN Scott has just completed 10 gruelling sessions for the Under-13 South West England Regional Development team.

Travelling to a number of venues including Paignton, Bristol, and Cirencester, the Weymouth youngster trained with the south west’s best under-13s players.

He was picked as first reserve for the team, who got to play in Manchester in the National Championships against the best players from nine other regions.

Although Scott didn’t make the trip he will have plenty more opportunities to improve his skills and represent his region as he was the youngest player in the team at only 11 years old.

As part of the selection process, Scott and the team travelled to France to compete in the annual Longues tournament, in which the south west team finished third, their highest ever placing.

Scott has been playing the sport for a number of years with Weymouth Basketball Club where he joins a number of other children who have and continue to represent Weymouth at a regional and country level.

He trains and played with the three junior teams at Weymouth Basketball, the Giants, Oilers and the Tropics.

He was introduced to the game by his older brother Kieron who plays for the Tropics and has played up in the adults team, the Raiders.

This isn’t the first year he has represented the south west – last year he was in the inaugural under-12 team that went on to compete in the National Championships in Sheffield.

Scott and the teams will be taking a break over the summer but he will return in the autumn to take part in the Regional Performance Centre and train hard to try and be first pick for next year's south west team.
