POWERLIFTER Elliot Stone will represent England at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in South Africa in September.

Stone, 23, finished second in the under-23 category at the All England Powerlifting Championships in Northampton, culminating in an invitation to lift for his country. He will contest the junior 66kg category in what will be his first international competition at the Commonwealths in Potchefstroom, which begin on Sunday, September 10.

The Future Physiques member, who only finished second due to bodyweight, is aiming to raise money for the trip through an in-house powerlifting triple-bill, which will take place on the first three Sundays in August at the Waverley Road-based club.

Future Physiques will match every £5 entry fee, with a prize going to the winners of each competition.

Starting tomorrow at 1pm, the squat competition heads the list of events, with the bench (August 13) and deadlift (August 20) disciplines completing the fundraiser.

Stone, who has been training at Future for six years, will judge the events, where everyone is invited to attend, powerlifter or not.

Budding entrants can sign up for the event at the Future Physiques front desk, while potential sponsors to cover expenses are invited to contact Dan, Wendy or Dana.
