WEYMOUTH powerlifters have come away with four titles and all eight competitors making the podium at the SWPLA Dorset Powerlifting Championships.

The tournament, hosted at the Bournemouth Barbell, saw Carly Dean-Lawes win the 63kg, Steven Varney take the 83kg while Luke Tolman place first in the 93kg and Mitchal Flowers win the 120kg.

Mike Walton came second in the 105kg and Ross Watson also came second in the 93kg while third place finishes went to Mason Mills and Julien Lawes in the 105 kg and 83 kg respectively.

The powerlifters are all coached by Shane Flowers through his online coaching platform SF Coaching and Flowers said: "I'm incredibly proud of each and every one of my lifters for their efforts! Overall all of my guys had a very successful competition and we're certainly showcasing that Weymouth has a lot of talent and potential in this sport".

Flowers added: “I knew everyone would do pretty well. They all had solid game plans to stick to.

“Everything went to plan really.”

The competitors prepared for the event for between two months and five months for the event.

Flowers explained: “It depends on the person. They will go to training four or five times a week, two or three hours a time, trying to watch what they eat.

“It starts off light and gets heavier as you get closer to the competition then they max out at the competition and do as much as they can.”

The tournament was the last for this year but most of the competitors are planning on competing in the English Championships in May next year.
