THE DORSET Destroyers Wheelchair Rugby Club have announced that they have set up a wheelchair basketball club called the Dorset Devils, which had a soft launch session on Wednesday with nine people attending ahead of an official launch on February 21.

The aim of the club is to provide more disabled people in Dorset the opportunity to get involved and play a competitive sport.

The club features Grace McGowan from Weymouth who in September last year set the record for the fastest 1k walk in an exoskeleton suit for her category, which raised £907 for the Dorset Destroyers.

The Devils are running free taster sessions every Wednesday night from 7 till 9pm at Rossmore Leisure Centre in Poole, until and including Wednesday February 7th in the build up to the official launch.

The Mayor of Poole Cllr Lindsay Wilson will come down to the club to help mark the launch, where the club will try and get her to have a go in what they hope will be a great start to the wheelchair basketball club.

The team intend to set up friendlies and hope to get a league team up and running for 2019.

The Devils train Wednesday nights from 7 till 9pm while the Destroyers train Sunday mornings from 11am till 2pm.
