BOURNEMOUTH 52

DORCHESTER 69

DORCHESTER Ladies took a great win over Bournemouth in the round of 32 in the Vivienne Trophy to earn a tie in the last 16 against Palmerston.

Bournemouth had already disposed of East Dorset 94-38 and Poole Dolphin 65-49 but Dorchester but cruised into the next round with a greater margin then they had anticipated.

The two home and two away triples format gave an opportunity to the Dorchester players to subdue the Bournemouth home players at the seasiders' venue

The Rosie Beales triple tore into Dorchester’s Jill Bonnett, Judith King and skip Janine Scola who were soon 0-6 down, but recovered to trail 6-7 after the first third of the game.

Pressure mounted for the Dorchester trio and the eventual outcome put Bournemouth firmly in the driving seat with a 24-9 result.

Jan Cherry, Sandra Hubbard and skip Kay Johns fared much better against the home Bournemouth triple skipped by Trish Gray and took four shots on the opening end and battled to eight shots apiece after 10 of the 18 ends had been played.

Four shots down at 10-14 brought a sparkling response from the team as they gained shots on the final three ends to record a well eared 17-14 win.

At Sandringham Sports Centre Dorchester were determined to benefit from the home advantage and although Sue Lofthouse, Val Cornick and skip Hazel Newboult went 3-5 behind to Bournemouth’s Barbara Lunnun, Dorchester soon got the measure of their opponents and ground away to stifle any response and ran out comfortable winners 18-8.

A top rink performance for Dorchester from Val Ghose, Jan Meyers and a determined skip Jenny Trotman as they controlled proceedings throughout the exchanges with Bournemouth skip Jill Griffiths and her team, to the effect that Griffiths was limited to just six shots and had to concede 25 to the rampant Dorchester triple.

The dominance at home more than compensated for the overall twelve shot deficit at Kings Park as Dorchester took the tie 69-52.

With a place in the quarter-finals against North Wilts or Exeter ISCA now at stake when they play Palmerstone Dorchester will hope to emulate their 2016 campaign when they reached the national final for the first time in their history but lost to Norfolk 74-62 with a team that featured five of the players who beat Bournemouth.
