WEYMOUTH skiing ace Bonnie Davenport continued her excellent week at the English Alpine Championships on day five with her fourth top-10 finish of the week.

Davenport, 14, finished eighth overall in the girls’ under-16 giant slalom amongst a field of 42 skiers in an excellent result. given that many of her competitors are older.

The Dorset alpine skier has been competing at the championships, in Italy all week as she continued her development as one of the country’s best young skiers.

Davenport, who raced for the British Ski Academy in Bormio: “I did finish the GS surprisingly. I’m really happy with it “The first run was alright, I went into joint-sixth and then after second run it didn’t go well and I made a few mistakes so ended up in eighth. It’s been a great week and I’ve definitely progressed since last year which is the main thing for me.”

Earlier in the week Davenport claimed eighth and seventh-place finishes in the Super G before taking fourth in Wednesday’s slalom, a result she described as her best ever at Bormio.

She added: “It feels good the result in the slalom, “It’s still a bit surprising but I’m really happy with it.

“I’m looking forward to the Interschools now, and then I’ve got a week’s training before the British Championships in Tignes which is always the best time of the year, and then I’ve got Tignes itself.

“Before Tignes everyone’s just really excited and the season’s coming to an end, it’s just really fun.

“It’ll be quite sad that the season’s gone quickly and it’s gone surprisingly fast with school being busy too.”
