THE South and West Dorset League celebrated another successful year with a presentation evening at the Riviera Hotel, Bowleaze Cove.
The evening provided the opportunity for the league to celebrate the winning teams from the previous summer and winter seasons, as well as umpires and players of the year.
Belle Construction achieved the double and collected the Winter and Sum-mer League titles.
Compere for the evening, Jayne Gardner, watched on proudly as her team, Team Waikiki, scooped an array of awards, including Division Three Winter League winners, the Sue Barras Cup for most improved team and a joint share with Ojo’s, of the Turks Head Shield for fair play. Gardner was thrilled with the award of silver umpire of the year for Division Two.
Other top award winners of the night included Vicky Sharpe of GW Electrical, who was presented with overall player of the year, while overall umpire of the year went to Louise Bugler of Belle Construction.
Caroline Smith, of Fitness for Life, became the first ever recipient of the Players’ Player of the Year cup. As part of the celebrations, team sponsors Antony Bennett of Broadwey Motors and Shelley Stevens of Casy House were invited to present the awards.
The Lou Beales award for services to netball was passed on by last year’s winner, Kelly Browne, to the deserving duo of Caroline Kellaway and Yvette Roles, for their continued support of the league.
The league held their annual presentation raffle on the evening and raised in the region of £200 to be donated to a local cancer charity and the Dorset Ambulance Service.
