Channel Division One WEYMOUTH LADIES 5 BEAMINSTER 0 WEYMOUTH Ladies celebrated clinching the Channel Division One title with a commanding victory over rivals Beaminster.

The champions have steamrollered the division this term and the win over their West Dorset counterparts maintained the Seasiders’ 100 per cent record.

However, they found themselves under immediate pressure at Redlands, with Beaminster keeping the home defence busy.

The pattern of play soon shifted and Weymouth began to control the flow of the game.

Susie Stone, back from injury, had a superb game in midfield, working well with captain Wendy Butcher and driving skilfully into the D.

It was not long before the hosts opened the scoring via predatory forward Lynda Drewitt.

And it was 2-0 soon after when Butcher produced a sneaky shot following a short corner routine.

Weymouth maintained their composure in the second half, making great use of Emily Bloxham on the right as she drove up the pitch.

Beaminster’s task then became even harder when Jenny Stuart-Smith deflected home a strike from Susie Stone for 3-0.

Rebecca Man, who stepped up from the seconds, enjoyed a great performance in midfield while fantastic skill from Drewitt resulted in the Seasiders’ fourth of the match.

The scoring was rounded off when Butcher also netted her second of the afternoon.

The table-toppers, who have four games left to play, travel to second-placed Bournemouth Thirds on Saturday before visiting Yeovil Seconds just 24 hours later.
