WEYMOUTH LADIES 2 BOURNEMOUTH LADIES III 1
WEYMOUTH beat Bournemouth III on the last day of the season to finish runners-up in Channel Division One.
Wimborne Wayfarers' 3-3 draw with mid-table Gillingham enabled the Seasiders to climb above them and into second spot.
Weymouth started the game strongly, communicating well and not allowing Bournemouth a sniff in the first few minutes.
Using this to their advantage, they maintained the pressure, and Susie Stone and Sophie Foot worked well together to create space in the D and with it scoring opportunities.
An early penalty corner was awarded and captain Foot opened the scoring from the top of the D after a deflection off the visiting the keeper.
Berni John worked well at the back with Emma Restorick, instructing the Seasiders effectively and closing down any breaks from the opposition. At the other end the hosts were unlucky not to extend their lead before the half-time interval.

The second half was much the same for Weymouth as they continued to up their play, but Bournemouth responded by disrupting the home side's flow with key interceptions.
Grace Smith's speed and nifty skills helped break up the visiting defence, and earned the hosts another penalty corner. From which a fantastic strike by Stone, past the keeper and into the bottom corner, increased Weymouth's advantage to two.
In the closing minutes of the match, a mistake by the home defence resulted in Bournemouth being awarded a final penalty corner. Despite an attempted block, the visitors were able to reduce the deficit back to one but had no time in which to grab an equaliser.
John, who proved solid at the heart of the Weymouth defence, said: "We knew we needed to win to keep the pressure on Wimborne, who slipped up at the last hurdle allowing us to finish a deserved second."
