MOMENTUS VICTORY: Sherborne students Nathan Riley, Tom Long and Matt Bugler
THREE Sherborne students won the Innovative Thinking award at the F1 in Schools World Championships held in Kuala Lumpur.
The Momentus team from Gryphon School, made up of Nathan Riley, Tom Long and Matt Bugler, spent three days competing against teams from across the world in a bid to take home the World Championship crown, however, the overall title went to another British team, Pulse from Devon.
The trio, who saw the Malaysian Grand Prix during the trip, won their place at the World Championships after being crowned UK National Champions last year.
Together, the team created a miniature Formula One car, which they raced along a 20-metre track against competitors from across the globe.
The Innovative Thinking prize was awarded to Momentus after they impressed the judges with their inventive approach in the design process of their car.
The team produced a computer-controlled air tunnel in which they tested their car for aerodynamic efficiency, and to ensure they had reduced drag on their car.

Team manager Riley, said: "Going to the World Championships was an amazing experience for our team, we're really proud that we were representing the UK and we haven't come away empty-handed.
"Winning the Innovative Thinking award was a great feeling, it was a shame to miss out on the overall title, but we've had an amazing trip and we'll never forget the experience."
