DORCHESTER’S second XV take centre stage at the club this weekend when they look to complete a Dorset & Wilts Two South double over New Milton Seconds (2.15pm).

With Weymouth withdrawing from Southern Counties South, Dorchester’s first team are without a league game tomorrow, meaning the spotlight will be on the seconds’ trip to Hampshire.

Captain Tom Evans and his men enjoyed a rousing bonus-point triumph against Puddletown last weekend and beat tomorrow’s opponents 31-5 at Coburg Road on the second weekend of the season.

“Last weekend was really pleasing,” said Evans. “We started off a little loose and then progressively got better and better.

“The scrum was up against it and the lineout struggled to fire but then that clicked and the scrum improved in the second half with the introduction of Jamie Richie at tight-head.”

Team manager Tom Gower went on to add: “Away from the pack, the backs were really on song, from the half-backs to the centres and the guys playing in the back three – all played off each other seamlessly.

“Matt Fry and Richard Deacon stood up last week so I’m expecting them to do the same this Saturday.

“Cameron Lynch has been a breath of fresh air for the club and Lee Harvey looks like he’s never been away.”

Puddletown have lost three on the spin so will be aiming to put that right when they host Frome Thirds (3pm), the side rock bottom of the Two South table.

Whether the game goes ahead is another thing as Frome forfeited their match at Dorset Dockers last Saturday – the third time they have conceded an away fixture this season.

Both of Bridport’s teams are in action with the firsts visiting East Dorset in Dorset & Wilts One South (2.15pm), while the seconds host Oakmeadians Thirds in Dorset & Wilts Four at the same time.

Meanwhile, Swanage & Wareham face a tough task away to third-placed Wimborne in Southern Counties South and in Dorset & Wilts One South, Swans Seconds host Sherborne Seconds.
