A FIRST Southern Counties South double of the season could be the reward for Dorchester tomorrow – if they can deliver the knockout blow.

The county town club arrested a run of eight league losses with a 10-10 draw at Walcot last Saturday.

But it was a contest assistant coach Gareth Biddle knows was there for the taking.

And that is why it is vitally important Dorchester don’t let any chance of a win go begging at Corsham tomorrow.

“It was a close contest at Walcot but one that we thought we deserved to win,” he said. “If it was a boxing contest we would have won on points.

“It was clearly evident both teams had not played for a month, however, our defence was good, as was our rucking and mauling.

“We completely dominated the scrum and as much as any coach tries to avoid mentioning the referee, we felt disappointed with a few key decisions which prevented us from getting the win.

“Our mindset this weekend is to put the game beyond any doubt and not to have the same situation again.”

Jonny Bowden returns to add his work rate and never-say-die attitude to the back row and Richard Deacon earns a well-deserved start in the centre.

Dorchester could climb three places with a bonus-point victory as four points separate them in 10th and Walcot in seventh.

Corsham have lost their last three, scoring just eight points in the process, and were beaten 10-0 by Dorchester earlier in the season.

Like the first XV, Dorchester Seconds play a rearranged fixture from the washout two weeks ago when they host Weymouth Seconds in Dorset & Wilts Two South.

“We seem to have Weymouth’s number so far this season having beaten them away in the league and the shield,” said team manager Tom Gower.

“These games are terrific for all involved and we expect them to come to us trying to make amends for those previous results.

"We have a strong squad available and we’re looking forward to seeing the blend of experience in the pack, with the likes of Matt Bridges playing alongside James McQuillan who is in really good form and showing a lot of prom- ise.

“Behind them, we are excited about the half-back pairing of Dan Cree and Lee Harvey.”

In the same division, Puddletown, thrashed 88-0 at home by Lytchett Minster last time out, face the unenviable task of going to leaders Dorset Dockers tomorrow.

Dockers hammered the Villagers 53-3 in October and have won all of their league games this season.

Two out of form teams clash in Dorset & Wilts One South when Bridport, playing the first of three successive home fixtures, host Westbury.

Meanwhile, Swanage & Wareham go in search of a third successive victory in Southern Counties South when they entertain Sherborne.

All matches are scheduled to kick-off at 2.15pm.
