DORCHESTER 8 WELLS 58
THE RUNAWAY leaders of Southern Counties South proved to be too good for a spirited Dorchester side.
Dorchester, on a poor run of form and short on confidence, were always going to be up against it when the unbeaten Somerset side came to town.
The hosts competed fiercely in the loose and had the upper hand in the scrums during the first period, but they were no match for one of the best sides seen at Coburg Road in several years.
The Wells back division, orchestrated by their outstanding inside centre, always looked dangerous, keeping the ball alive in the tackle and supporting each other continuously.
Four tries and a conversion in the first half were answered only by a well-struck Jamie Morgan penalty, giving the visitors a 22-3 lead at the break.
Wells had the benefit of the stiff breeze in the second period so it was little surprise that they added a further six tries as the hosts tired.
Dorchester did manage a consolation score, Callum King and Rich Deakin putting Ollie Harding over in the left-hand corner.
To their credit, the home side never let their heads drop but sometimes you have to admit that the other side were just better than you.
Elsewhere, Dorchester Seconds moved up to fourth in Dorset & Wilts Two South with an 18-5 win at Poole.
Dorchester: Cottell, Miners, Hodgson, L King, Makepeace, Jones, Newsam, Sergison, Gower, Harding, Lynch, C King, Deakin, Morgan, Fry. Reps: Chalker, Paton, Bowden.
