DORCHESTER are set to hold a post mortem later this week into their second XV’s extraordinary 212-0 hiding at Dorset Dockers on Saturday.

Verwood-based Dockers, the runaway leaders of Dorset & Wilts Two South, ran in 32 tries to register what is understood to be a record-winning margin for a competitive match in Great Britain.

It is believed that the previous best was held by Welsh club Llanidloes, who trounced Holyhead 181-0 last September.

But while Dockers are savouring their remarkable achievement, Dorchester are still coming to terms with what happened.

Club secretary Andrew Smith told Echo-sport that officials will meet on Thursday to discuss the match in greater detail.

Smith wasn’t at the game but he was understandably taken aback by the margin of victory.

An initial club statement said: “Clearly shocked at the scoreline, the club will be holding a meeting this week when hopefully all facts will be available after which the club may be in a position to comment further.”

Dockers will seek clarification from the Rugby Football Union that their score is in fact a record.

Sixteen of the 23 players they used got on the scoresheet at Potterne Park with Dan Mallard scoring four tries, while Alex Priest, Donald Wharton, James Osborne and Michael Notarbtolo all bagged hat-tricks.

Tom Kier, who scored two tries, kicked 24 of Dockers’ 26 conversions.

However, Dockers fell short of emulating the world record set by French club Lavardac in their 350-0 victory over Vergt in 1984.

clearly this goes to show that Dorset Dockers should not be in this league, they are a newly formed team who should have been assessed correctly to establish the league they should be playing in. Dorchester 2nds are having a good season spoilt by 2 teams who don't belong. Dorchester 2nds have reached the final of the 2nds Cup Final for the second year running and will go and play a proper 2nds team unlike last year when the opposition flooded their team with 1st team players.

Dorchester 2nds are proud of their season and 1 result does not take away the hard work they put in.

Dorset dockers would have beat any other side in that division by a similar scoreline on Saturday. The report goes they have a squad of 30 payed players which included 3 ex internationals all funded by the same multi millionaire who has just left Bournemouth and ploughed his money into the Dockers. No shame in that case for the young Dorch fledglings

Er - did anyone actually check to see if anyone from the Dorchester team was on the field?

(As an ex-pat Welshman, I'm used to teams not turning up for important games...)

Well said Hunter. I feel that Dorchester will come away with more credit than these fancy dans who have no history and are bankrolled by the ex Bornemouth RFC sugar daddy. They have poached the better players from clubs in East Dorset and have almost wiped Verwood RFC out of existence. As for their fans, the game I watched disgusted me as they whooped and cheered at any foul play by their team and jeered at any good play shown by the opposition. The Dockers are playing at least 2 levels below where they should, they have no history, no ground, no morals and will be gone within 2 years.
Ps lets see how long this post stays on here this time!!!

I have seen Dockers play twice and each time I was disgusted by the comments not only from the fans but from the players as well. This is not the sportsmanship that rugby is all about, and there is no place for an arrogant team such as the Dockers in the lower ranks.

It is not an opinion Mr Opinonator. It's a complete fabrication by someone with a hatred for anew team, who has been put into a league that totally unsuitable for the quality of the players, many of which we're not attached to club. They are not arrogant , and show great respect to all teams and supporters. There has not been any complaints by any team about our attitude. Your remarks were reprehensible, and you know you they are totally untrue. We know who you may be.

I note mr oppinionater, that you feel unable to show your true identity. We are wondering why. Perhaps it is very close to an old home.

But Tony, I am not the only one to post it on here! So when did Verwood last play a game? Out of their entire season they have managed to field a team for only 6 of the 12 league matches. And that's nothing to do with your Dockers? You should be called the Dorset Cuckoos!
