NORTH DORSET III 11 WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 43
JAKE Guildford crossed for two of Weymouth & Portland’s seven tries as the visitors coasted to victory at North Dorset Thirds.
Ryan Lewendon, Sean Murphy, Jack Morrison, James Chittick and Steve Nation-Granger also crossed the whitewash, while Bryn Llew-ellyn added five conversions.
An injury to one of North Dorset’s props meant uncontested scrums were a feature of the game from the 15th minute onwards.
And that was something visiting captain Kevin Leatham felt cost his side around 20 points.
However, another bonus-point success keeps Weymouth & Portland hot on the heels of Dorset & Wilts Two South leaders Salisbury Seconds.
“It was a good win,” said Leatham. “We could have won by a bigger margin but the game went to uncontested scrums after 15 minutes.
“That took the wind out of our sails because our scrummaging is one of our strong points – I’d say it cost us about 20 points.
“We put a few points on them in the first half but they came back and our indiscipline allowed them to score a couple of tries.
“We got ourselves together and were pretty comfortable in the second half.”
The visitors took a 14-0 lead courtesy of tries for Lewendon and Murphy.
North Dorset closed the gap to 14-10 but Guildford scored the first of his brace to make it 21-10.
Morrison then went over and although the hosts replied with a penalty, Weymouth & Portland ran away with the game.
Guildford, Chittick and Nation-Ganger touched down to make it four wins from five for Leatham’s men.
