DORCHESTER third XV skipper Nick Hodge is looking to take a strong side to Ellingham & Ringwood Thirds tomorrow (2.15pm), as the county town team bid to take over at the top of Dorset & Wilts Four.

A win for the visitors, who have won three and lost one of their four matches to date, would see them leapfrog Swanage & Wareham Fourths and leaders Wincanton.

Their last competitive fixture saw them run in a hatful of tries in a record-breaking 137-0 trouncing of the Swans, though last weekend’s derby at Weymouth & Portland Thirds was called off due to injuries and unavailability in their opponents’ ranks.

“One of Dorchester’s successes this season has been the introduction of Colts players who have benefitted from playing in a team with more experienced players,” said club secretary Andrew Smith.

“This is a deliberate strategy to develop the younger players in the club and provide a gradual introduction to adult games.”

Elsewhere, Swanage & Wareham travel to Wimborne in the semi-finals of the Dorset & Wilts first XV Cup, while the Swans’ second string host Westbury in the last-eight of the Dorset & Wilts second XV Shield (both 2.15pm).
